This is Anima’s firm belief as she leads the energy transitions point of view and the delivery of energy transition projects in IBM Canada’s Consulting Sustainability Services. Anima currently works to enhance value creation in the delivery of energy transition projects leveraging data and technologies such as AI/ML, blockchain, advanced analytics, and hybrid cloud.
Anima is a seasoned expert in climate, environment and decarbonization technologies. Anima has spent over 10 years of her career in the development of clean energy technologies in the heavy industrial and hard-to-decarbonize sectors. She has spearheaded multi-million-dollar capital projects in carbon capture and storage, electric vehicle charging, hydrogen fuel, and renewable transport fuels such as renewable diesel, biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel.
Anima hails from Ghana in West Africa; holds a master’s degree in Process systems engineering from the University of Regina and has authored several publications in the field of carbon capture and storage.
Neetika is an established thought leader in areas of clean technology, sustainability, and energy transition. Under her leadership, the GRE&T Centre has launched many innovative initiatives, such as a blockchain-based platform that enables the exchange of clean energy between consumers and the grid, North America’s first distribution-level local electricity market in collaboration with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and a successful electricity pricing pilot that laid the foundation for a new ultra-low electricity rate for EV drivers which will become available in Ontario in 2023.
Previously, Neetika was the Chief Marketing Manager for Nissan LEAF and Cross-Overs in Canada, responsible for sales and profitability for her portfolio, including the launch of the all-electric, zero emissions Nissan LEAF in Canada.
In 2022, Neetika received Canada’s Clean50 individual award in the category "Traditional Energy and Generation. Previously, she was presented with the Champion Award by Energy Storage North America for her leadership in advancing energy storage technology.
Neetika serves on the board of several industry associations such as Electric Mobility Canada, Windfall Ecology Centre and National Electricity Roundtable, and served as Chair on the Board of NSERC Energy Storage Technology (NEST) Network.
Neetika holds a Master’s degree in Physics from Panjab University, and an MBA from McMaster University, and the Chartered Director (C. Dir.) designation from The Directors College, an Executive Program offered by the DeGroote School of Business - McMaster University.
Carter is the Chief Executive Officer at SWTCH where he leads business strategy and planning. For his work at SWTCH, Carter was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Visionaries Prize in Scientific and Technological Innovation. Prior to SWTCH, Carter was a Senior Consultant at Deloitte in their energy practice. At Deloitte, he led international teams in digital strategy and transformation projects for energy, financial services, and healthcare companies across 3 continents. Carter is a board member of the Ontario Clean Technology Industry Association and of Electric Mobility Canada. Carter attended McGill University for his BSc and PhD and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for his MBA
Matt McClearn is an investigative reporter and data journalist with The Globe and Mail’s Energy, Natural Resources and Environment Team. He specializes in complex, data-informed projects relating to energy and environmental matters, and particularly the electricity sector. He worked as a business journalist for many years prior to joining The Globe in 2015.
Matt Girgis is Managing Director of Volvo Car Canada Limited, a position which he was appointed to in June 2019. In his role, Girgis is responsible for all aspects of the Volvo Cars organization in Canada including sales, marketing and service. An astute business leader, Girgis takes the reins in Canada at a time of growth with plans to lean in to the talents of his team and ready the business for the future. In a dynamic and complex industry, his focus remains on profitable growth developed through customer-centric strategies.
Prior to his role as Managing Director, Girgis held several positions of increasing importance throughout the Volvo Cars Canada organization including Vice President & CFO before relocating to Rockleigh, New Jersey to serve as the Deputy Head of Finance & Controller for the Volvo Car, Americas Region. He also spent time at BMW Canada in various Controller roles focused on Retailer profitability and business management.
Passionate about cars since his time as a ‘lot jockey’ at a Ford dealership during his high school years, Girgis has worked at the Retail level in both the service and parts department and is energized by the ever-transforming automotive industry.
